Freebies Are the New Drug

It's the 1990s.. feels so good just thinking about it. Yesss.. childhood days. Its Sunday, your father hands you a 5Rupee coin. The golden yellow thick metal shines and you're highly impressed. That new coin was big deal back in the day. You're sent to get a pack of biscuits for evening tea. You go to the shop pick up the packet and it says " free sticker". You ask for it and the shopkeeper shows you a big sheet of characters. You're spoiled for choice. You make up your mind and pick one. Give the packet to your dad and put sticker on your notebook.

Atleast for next 2 days you are the cool kid in classroom. Many others too show which sticker they have and now you're part of this elite club... until some new offer comes up. Some days later you forget about it. None of us thought of it back then but it wasn't just biscuits, many other products too had something FREE coming along.

It became a habit. Now we subconsciously just pick up something that has a free gift attached. Almost as if it's our right to get free stuff. And we just neglect products that don't give anything free.

This habit of ours has become "THE" strategy of every brand to capture new markets. At one point even internet data was given free to us. As they say in digital realm," if it's free YOU are the product". Over time we have started to realise that maybe yes, WE are the product. We were told dystopia is when you are left with no choice but to agree with authority. But now we are giving support in favour of those give us the BEST handouts. Any of you ever walked into office and looked around and thought... that guy, over there, he has no interest in his job. Well, that's how I feel when look at modern batch of actors, particularly Nepo Kids. They have no interest in their work. They have no desire to perform. You can just feel it through the screen. They are in the game only for glamour. Because they grew up in that world, they want to just do whatever to fit in. And apparently it does not require to learn acting.
